Mimosa scabrella BenthAbstract: The forest formations known as "bracatingais" (bracatinga forest) are composed initially only by the Mimosa scabrella (bracatinga) which over the years, is replaced by several secondary species. They are common forest formations in the small properties of the metropolitan region of Curitiba, being an important source of income for the small owners of this region. The wood produced in these bracatingais is sold mainly for firewood and charcoal. Aiming to improve the production quantification process, this work had as objective to model the volume per unit area present in the bracatingais and to evaluate the dynamic of the volumetric stock over the years. The data base come from 320 plots measured in stands with ages varying from 3 to 20 years, distributed in several municipalities. The modeling was done for bracatinga, for the secondary species and for the total set of species, fitting 31 stand equations and 13 growth and yield equations. To evaluate the evolution of the stock, the volume of the bracatinga was compared with that of the secondary species, it was identified the age where the volume of the bracatingas is supplanted by the volume of the secondary; then based on the volumes estimated by the growth and yield equation, for each of the three adjustment approaches, the age of occurrence of estimated maximum increments (IMA and ICA) and maximum yield were identified. The stand volume equations fitted by the forward stepwise process presented better performance, and the logarithmic equation was better for bracatinga (R²aj = 0.993 and Syx% = 3.46) and for the secondary species (R²aj. = 0.990 and Syx% = 10.17); for the set of all species, the best one was the arithmetic with R²aj. = 0.950 and Syx% = 8.87. In order to estimate growth and yield, the Clutter model presented the best results for bracatinga (R²aj. = 0.954 and Syx% = 8.54) and for the set of all species (R²aj. = 0.917 and Syx% = 11.56). The modified Clutter model was better for the secondary, with R²aj. = 0.952 and Syx% = 25.08. These equations were validated using the chi-square test and considered suitable for use. Comparing the volume quantification methodologies, for the three approaches to the data, it was observed in the ANOVA that there was no significant difference between the methodologies, with 95% probability. In general the bracatinga is supplanted by the secondary, in volume and basal area per hectare, between the ages of 13 and 14 years. For bracatinga the ICA reaches its maximum value at 2 years, the IMA reaches the maximum value at 3 years and the maximum yield is reached at 8 years of age, decreasing continuously after 8 years. For the secondary the ICA reaches its maximum value at 15 years and until 20 years does not occur the maximum value of the IMA curve. For the set of all species the ICA reaches its maximum value at 3 years, the IMA reaches the maximum value at 5 years and until 20 years does not happen the maximum yield of the stand.
