Defesa : Curitiba, 28/11/2022Inclui referênciasResumo: Nesta dissertação, almejamos um estudo a respeito das famílias imigrantes que deixaram o Guangdong (no sul da China) em direção ao Brasil, e se estabeleceram em Curitiba entre as décadas de 1950 e 1970, a partir de entrevista de história oral com a segunda geração desta imigração (isto é, filhos e netos de imigrantes chineses que nasceram no Brasil) e fontes da imprensa curitibana da época. Estão entre nossos principais objetivos pensar as representações raciais sobre chineses, como estas se constituíram historicamente e seus possíveis impactos nas experiências de vida dos entrevistados e de suas famílias; a inserção das famílias na cidade e as atividades econômicas a que se dedicavam (em especial, as pastelarias); que relações os entrevistados estabelecem com o seu passado e como se identificam ou localizam a si mesmos na sociedade brasileira. As facetas das representações sobre chineses foram discutidas a partir do estudo sobre a estética da exclusão de Ana Paulina Lee e da teoria da triangulação racial de Claire Jean Kim, ainda com apoio das elaborações sobre imigração e raça de Giralda Seyferth e da tese a respeito da identidade racial paranaense de Benno Warken Alves. Buscamos também analisar sobreposições e distinções nos estereótipos associados a chineses e japoneses, o que requereu as contribuições de Elisa Massae Sasaki a respeito das narrativas que o Japão elaborou sobre si mesmo. Para pensar as formas de ajuda mútua que esses imigrantes desenvolveram, fizemos uso dos acúmulos sobre redes migratórias de Oswaldo Truzzi, e pensamos o papel da comunidade para a identidade imigrante a partir de Giralda Seyferth. O comércio e consumo de heroína, encontrado nos jornais, demandou um breve olhar para a história do proibicionismo das drogas, para o qual foi fundamental o amparo de autores como Henrique Carneiro e Alfred McCoy. Entre outros teóricos, pensamos a memória dos entrevistados a partir de Joel Candau, e os processos de identificação a partir de Denys Cuche. O conceito de socioanálise de Abdelmalek Sayad orientou a reflexão a respeito da compreensão ou objetivação do passado e dos conflitos intergeracionais da família imigrante por parte dos entrevistados. As narrativas orais foram também analisadas a partir de conceitos como assimilação, aculturação e transnacionalismo; da percepção da discriminação racial e, em especial, da reivindicação da brasilidade como apontada por Jeffrey Lesser.Abstract: In this dissertation, we aim a study on immigrant families which left Guangdong (southern China) towards Brasil, and established themselves in Curitiba between the decades of 1950s and 1970s, based on oral history interviews on the second generation of this immigration (meaning the children and grandchildren of Chinese immigrants, who were born in Brazil) and on newspaper editions from that period. Our main goals are to think the racial representations of the Chinese, how those were historically constructed and its possible impacts on the interviewee’s life experiences and their families’; the families’ insertion in the city and the economic activity they were dedicated to (specially, the pastelarias); the relations the interviewees formed with their past and how they identify, or locate, themselves in Brazilian society. The facets of the representations on the Chinese were discussed based on the study on the aesthetic of exclusion by Ana Paulina Lee and the racial triangulation theory by Claire Jean Kim, with the support of the elaborations on race and immigration by Giralda Seyferth and the thesis on the racial identity of Paraná by Benno Warken Alves. We also seek to analyze the overlapping and distinctions in the stereotypes associated to the Japanese and the Chinese, which requested the contributions of Elisa Massae Sasaki regarding the narratives Japan elaborated of itself. To reflect upon the forms of mutual help these immigrants developed, we utilized the conceptualization of migrant networks by Oswaldo Truzzi, and considered the role of community to the immigrant identity elaborated by Giralda Seyferth. The commerce and consumption of heroine, found in the newspaper collections, demanded a brief glance on the history of prohibition, to which the support of authors like Henrique Carneiro and Alfred McCoy was fundamental. Among other scholars, we reflected on the interviewee’s memories through Joel Candau, and their identification processes through Denys Cuche. The concept of socioanalysis, by Abdelmalek Sayad, oriented the thoughts on the interviewee’s comprehension of the past and the intergenerational conflicts of the immigrant family.
