Defesa : Curitiba, 16/09/2022Inclui referências: p. 131-137Área de concentração: Estudos LiteráriosResumo: Uma nova onda de interesse pelas tradições nórdicas, pela mitologia e pela representação do indivíduo da Era Viking floresceu no ocidente nos últimos anos, incentivando a circulação de produções literárias medievais oriundas da tradição literária escandinava. Como efeito dessas redescobertas, ocorreu um aumento da veiculação de obras relacionadas à temática, sendo elas, tanto peças autenticamente medievais, bem como produções pós-modernas influenciadas pela literatura e pelo sujeito medieval. A proposta dessa pesquisa foi analisar representações de mulheres no contexto medieval escandinavo com o objetivo de aprofundar as reflexões sobre as diferentes representações de mulheres nas sociedades nórdicas medievais. Com base nas pesquisas da Escandinavística – que incluem estudos arqueológicos, sociológicos e literários – em conjunto com a Teoria de Gênero e Teoria Crítica Feminista, foi possível repensar os conceitos de representação feminina em um ambiente para além do contexto ocidental pós-moderno, possibilitando refletir a extensão do impacto que o viés feminista tem na releitura de obras literárias. Além disso, as reflexões apontadas na análise utilizaram como recurso metodológico a subdivisão dos grupos de indivíduos por momento cronológico, conforme apresentado pela medievalista e crítica literária Jóhanna Katrín Friðriksdóttir. O objeto de pesquisa foi selecionado a partir da leitura da narrativa Saga de Eiríkr Vermelho, uma saga islandesa familiar que reconta as origens da descoberta da Islândia, Groenlândia e América do Norte. A saga em questão é uma obra anônima, registrada em um manuscrito datado do século XIII, na qual são apresentadas personagens consideradas ficcionais, contudo, aceitas como representações de possíveis indivíduos reais que viveram na Escandinávia entre os séculos X e XI. A apresentação das personagens escolhidas foi feita de forma a elencar fatores importantes para a reflexão da figura feminina, e possibilitou abrir espaço para um debate sobre a magnitude da participação das mulheres em ambientes sociais nórdicos medievais como a esfera do trabalho, das guerras e batalhas, das navegações e colonização de novas regiões, e até mesmo no ambiente letrado. Algumas dessas mulheres foram analisadas de forma mais aprofundada, outras de maneira mais sucinta, a diferença se dá pela quantidade de informações disponíveis a respeito dessas mulheres nas narrativas. Dentre as dez personagens, vale ressaltar três delas: Auðr Mente-Profunda em suas navegações e assentamento na Islândia; Guðriðr, mulher cristã que participa de um ritual de vidência pagã, emigra para um assentamento nas terras americanas e é mãe do primeiro homem escandinavo nascido na América; Thorbjörg, vidente representante das crenças pagãs, é convidada para uma festa e pede o auxílio de Guðriðr para realizar seus encantamentos. Essas mulheres ajudam a formatar as representações do conjunto formado pelas mulheres nórdicas medievais. A força e o poder dessas mulheres da literatura nórdica medieval é uma representação da própria realidade da sociedade escandinava com seus longos invernos e a constante necessidade de resistir aos perigos do ambiente; para ser mulher na Escandinávia medieval era necessário enfrentamento e resistência. O trabalho de reflexão sobre as personagens nórdicas não foi findado ao final desse estudo, contudo foram lançadas as sementes das reflexões da representação feminina no contexto nórdico medieval.Abstract: A new wave of interest in Norse traditions, mythology and the representation of the individual from the Viking Age has flourished in the West in recent years, encouraging the circulation of medieval literary productions from the Scandinavian literary tradition. As an effect of these rediscoveries, there was an increase in the publication of works related to the theme, being them both authentically medieval pieces, as well as postmodern productions influenced by literature and the medieval subject. The purpose of this research was to analyse representations of women in the Scandinavian medieval context with the aim of going through reflections on different representations of women in medieval Nordic societies. Based on Scandinavian research – which includes archaeological, sociological and literary studies – in conjunction with Gender Theory and Feminist Critical Theory, it was possible to rethink the concepts of female representation in an environment beyond the postmodern western context, making it possible to reflect the extent of the impact that the feminist bias has on the reinterpretation of literary works. In addition, the reflections pointed out in the analysis used as a methodological resource the subdivision of groups of individuals by chronological moment, as presented by the medievalist and literary critic Jóhanna Katrín Friðriksdóttir. The research object was selected from the reading of the narrative Saga de Eiríkr Vermelho, a family Icelandic saga that recounts the origins of the discovery of Iceland, Greenland and North America. The saga in question is an anonymous work, recorded in a manuscript dating from the 13th century, in which characters considered fictional are presented, however, accepted as representations of possible real individuals who lived in Scandinavia between the 10th and 11th centuries. The presentation of the chosen characters was made to list important factors for the reflection of the female figure and made it possible to open space for a debate on the magnitude of women's participation in medieval Nordic social environments such as the sphere of work, wars and battles, navigation and colonization of new regions, and even in the literate environment. Some of these women were more deeply analysed, others more succinctly, the difference is due to the amount of information available about these women in the narratives. Among the ten characters, it is worth mentioning three of them: Auðr DeepMinded in her navigations and settlement in Iceland; Guðriðr, a Christian woman who participates in a pagan ritual, emigrates to a settlement in American lands and is the mother of the first Scandinavian man born in the Americas; Thorbjörg, a pagan seer, is invited to a party and asks for Guðriðr's help to perform her spells. These women help to format the representations of the set formed by medieval Nordic women. The strength and power of these women from medieval Norse literature is a representation of the very reality of Scandinavian society with its long winters and the constant need to resist the dangers of the environment; to be a woman in medieval Scandinavia required confrontation and resistance.
