Machado-da-SilvaAbstract: The purpose of this study is to describe the relations between institutional context, structure of the interorganizational relationships and strategic practices of the religious organizations that compose the Assembly of God church, know as "Assembléia de Deus" (AD) in Curitiba, Brazil. This research was developed in function of the low number of inquiries that works with the strategic activities in the context of the religious organizations. The theoreticianempiricist support is structured in the Institutional Perspective of Analysis, the social network analysis and the concept of Strategy as Practice. The design is based in the method of the social network analysis. The universe of the study is composed by one hundred sixty seven churches' managers and the final sample for inquiry is composed up sixty managers of the "Assembléia de Deus" (AD) in Curitiba. The first stage of the research was concerned to the description of the environment values related with the management of the religious organizations in the country (first-class institutional context), as well as identification of which of these values is strengthened by the direction of the network (second-class institutional context). In this stage was identified the activities considered as strategic by the actors in this context. In the sequence, were searched using structured questionnaire: the structure of the interorganizational relationships; the intensity of the environment values in the interpretative schemes of the managers of the sixty organizations that had been part of the research; and to point the presence of the strategic activities that could be differentiated between such organizations. The social network analyses show two components that represent a core-periphery configuration of the standards of relationships between the social actors. The central component is characterized by a bigger density of the social network while the peripheral component presents few relations between its actors. The situated managers in the center of the social network more intensely value the efficiency, the customization and the cooperation while that the actors located in the peripheral region to take care of for values older as: quality, reputation and tradition. How much to the strategic activities the managers of the churches of the center of the net carry through more frequently: specific public cults, sending of missionaries for other states, activities of development of the community, use of the internet, reforms in the church, phone calls for the absent members, cult in the house of the members, and spreading in the periodical of the AD. Some of the strategic activities of these actors seem to reconstruct some of the values more present in the component of the network in which locates the proper manager. In the same way these values limit the variety of actions played and coordinated for the managers of the AD in its proper component. The relation between institutional context, structure of the relationships and strategic practices (activities) points with respect to the notion of interdependence between these elements. This logic reflects the idea of reciprocity between structure and action treated more appropriately in the Structuration Theory. Finally it is argued that some environment values available to the different logics of action are strengthening by the direction of the network in respect to its normative potential in influencing the interpretation of its members and its practices. However the core-periphery configuration of the social network of relationships show the necessity in considering the institutional context of more dynamic and fragmented way while such structure seems to operate of recursive way in the construction and reconstruction of institutional contradictions that concur for the isomorphism of the strategic actions of the circumscribed actors in this social network.Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Federal do Paraná, Setor de Ciências Sociais Aplicadas, Programa de Pós-Graduação em Administração. Tal proposta foi estruturada em função do baixo número de investigações que apresentam como objeto de interesse as atividades estratégicas no contexto das organizações religiosas. O quadro teórico-empírico se apóia na Perspectiva Institucional de Análise, na Análise de Redes e na Abordagem da Estratégia Como Prática. O delineamento se assenta no método da análise de redes. O universo do estudo é composto por cento e sessenta e sete dirigentes de congregações e a amostra final para levantamento dos dados contemplou um número de sessenta pastores da Assembléia de Deus (AD) em Curitiba. A primeira etapa da pesquisa foi dedicada à descrição dos valores ambientais relacionados à gestão das organizações religiosas no país (contexto institucional de primeira ordem), bem como identificação de quais desses valores são reforçados pela direção da rede (contexto institucional de segunda ordem). Nessa fase, também foram identificadas as atividades consideradas estratégicas pelos agentes insertos no arranjo. Na seqüência, com utilização de questionário estruturado, buscou-se: mapear a estrutura de relacionamentos interorganizacionais; evidenciar a intensidade dos valores ambientais nos esquemas interpretativos dos dirigentes das sessenta congregações que fizeram parte da pesquisa e apontar a presença das atividades estratégicas que pudessem ser diferenciadas entre tais organizações. A análise da rede revelou dois componentes que representam uma configuração centro-periferia dos padrões de relacionamentos entre os atores sociais. O componente central é caracterizado por uma maior densidade da rede enquanto o componente periférico apresenta poucas relações entre seus atores. Os dirigentes situados no centro da rede valorizam mais intensamente a eficiência, a customização e a cooperação ao passo que os atores localizados na região periférica primam por valores mais antigos como: qualidade, reputação e tradição. Quanto às atividades estratégicas os dirigentes das congregações do centro da rede realizam com maior freqüência: cultos para públicos específicos, envio de missionários para outros estados, atividades de desenvolvimento da comunidade, evangelização com uso da internet, reformas na congregação, telefonemas para os fiéis ausentes, cultos na casa dos membros, e divulgação no jornal da AD. Uma parte das atividades estratégicas desses atores parece reconstruir alguns dos valores mais presentes no componente da rede no qual se localiza o próprio dirigente. Da mesma maneira, esses valores limitam a variedade de ações desempenhadas e coordenadas pelos pastores da AD em seu próprio componente. De forma geral, a relação entre contexto institucional, estrutura dos relacionamentos e práxis (atividades) estratégicas aponta para a noção de interdependência entre esses elementos. Tal lógica reflete a idéia de reciprocidade entre estrutura e ação tratada mais apropriadamente na Teoria da Estruturação. Por fim, destaca-se que determinados valores ambientais disponíveis a diferentes lógicas de ação são potencializados pela direção da rede no que concerne ao seu potencial normativo em influenciar a interpretação dos seus membros e suas práxis estratégicas.
