A saúde mental implica muito mais que a ausência de doenças mentais. Com base nestes princípios buscou-se aperfeiçoar o manejo clínico dos pacientes portadores de doenças mentais na Unidade de Saúde Palmar, numa busca de uma experiência intervencionista junto a equipe da Estratégia Saúde da Família juntamente com os psicólogos do CAPS da cidade de Imbituva-PR, buscando acompanhar pacientes portadores de algum transtorno mental em seu cotidiano e convivência familiar, bem como o acompanhamento individual com intervenção medicamentosa. Foi realizado o estudo em 32 pacientes, observando um predomínio do sexo feminino com 20 participantes (62,5%) e 12 (37,50%) do sexo masculino. Por meio da pesquisa dos dados desses encontros e de acordo com os resultados do questionário, verificou-se que 21 dos 32 pacientes (65,62%) faziam uso irregular de psicofármacos, sendo a maioria deles mulheres (71,42%). Foi coletado ainda com relação a tentativa de suicídio em 12 pacientes (37,5%), sendo 8 (66,66%) do sexo feminino e 4 (33,33%) do sexo masculino, alegaram já ter tentado suicídio alguma vez na vida. 15 participantes (46,8%) alegaram já ter pensado em cometer suicídio, mas nunca tentado. O medicamento mais utilizado foram os benzodiazepínico (65,62,%). Buscou-se no projeto de intervenção principalmente o desmame dos antidepressivos em pacientes com mais de 6 meses de uso, com terapias alternativas, dos quais dos 26 usuários (81,25%), 17 (65,38%) conseguiram o desmame dos medicamentos. Destarte, fica claro o contexto do uso da medicação de maneira empírica, principalmente benzodiazepínicos (Clonazepam e Diazepam), bem como a dificuldade dos próprios profissionais de saúde em superar o modelo hospitalocêntrico e habitua-se a aplicar a medicina centrada na pessoa com a finalidade de melhorar a qualidade de vida das pessoas através de ações da Atenção primária à saúde.Abstract: The Brazilian unified health system, or Sistema único de Saúde (SUS), is one of the most important legacies in free healthcare worldwide, having the mental health care and its derivatives as one of the main cornerstones of basic healthcare. Mental health implies far more than just the absence of mental diseases. Based on these principles, the medical crew of Palmar health unit sought to improve the clinical management of patients with mental problems, in search of an interventionist experience alongside the Family Health Strategy team, or Estratégia em Saúde da Família and the psychologists from the Psychosocial Care Centers, or CAPS, in the city of Imbituva, state of Paraná, as a way of keeping up with the patients afflicted by some kind of mental disorder in their daily and family lives, as well as to follow them individually with drug intervention. The experiment was executed with 32 patients, with the predominance of females, with 20 participants (62,5%) and 12 (37,50%) males. Through the data research and quiz results, it was established that 21 from the 32 patients (65,62%) made irregular use of psychotropic drugs, from which the most part (71,42%) were females. It was also gathered information about suicide attempts of 12 patients (37,5%), being 8 (66,66%) females and 4 (33,33%) males, that claimed to have attempted suicide at least once in their lifetime. 15 participants (46,8%) claimed to have thought about the idea of trying suicide, but never actually tried. In 65,62% of the cases, benzodiazepines were the drugs of choice. The idea behind the intervention project was to suspend the antidepressants in patients taking the medication for over 6 months, with the help of alternative therapies; from which 17 (65,38%) from a total of 26 patients (81,25%) were able to stop the use of the medication.
