Defesa : Curitiba, 23/02/2018Inclui referências: p.128-140Resumo: O tema central da dissertação é a digressão geográfica em Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956) de João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967), que se instaura na narrativa por meio das características do sertão e transforma-se em elemento que ativa a memória do narrador. A dissertação tem como objetivo analisar a função das digressões geográficas, exemplificando e explicando de que forma contribuem para a estruturação do sentido e da conformação estética do romance. As digressões são avaliadas a partir de duas hipóteses: a primeira as investiga como figuração subjetiva e afetiva do narrador e sua conexão com as memórias relacionadas às relações amorosas, especialmente com Diadorim. Sob a segunda hipótese, confronta-se a figuração do espaço físico como subjetivação, considerando-se a presença do espaço físico telúrico, sua paisagem humana e natural. As digressões são constituídas na obra por meio da interação de tipos variados de memória que influenciam diretamente na sua constituição estilística e associam-se a diferentes gêneros literários e discursivos. As análises estão amparadas pela relevância da tradição oral no romance e do emprego das técnicas da tradição oral, assim como pela interação dos gêneros discursivos primário e secundário. Nesse contexto, a metodologia para identificar as digressões foi elaborada a partir do estudo de digressões na Retórica Antiga e de técnicas de performance de cantadores e contadores tradicionais; as análises estão embasadas em teorias conversacionais e análise do discurso. Palavras-chave: João Guimarães Rosa, Grande Sertão: Veredas, Digressões em Grande Sertão: Veredas, IlíadaAbstract: The main theme of this dissertation is the geographic digression portrayed in the novel Grande Sertão: Veredas (1956), by João Guimarães Rosa (1908-1967). Said digression is built in the narrative through descriptions of sertão's landscape and transforms itself into elements which are responsible for triggering memory. This study aims to analyze the purpose of geographic digressions by producing examples and revealing the creative paths taken by the author in order to develop sense, and aesthetic beauty in his novel. These phenomena are evaluated from the perspective of two main hypotheses: the first one explores the digressions as subjective and emotional representation of the narrator's connection with his memories concerning romantic relationships, especially with Diadorim. Under the second hypothesis, we argue the representation of physical space as subjectivization by examining the physicality of the novel's telluric world, its human and natural landscape. Digressions are built in the story through the action of various kinds of memory, which have direct influence in their stylistic structure and are associated with different literary and discursive genres. Such findings are supported by the relevance of oral tradition in the novel, the usage of their techniques, and the interaction of primary and secondary discursive genres. Hence, the methodology used to identify digressions was established from the study of the digression phenomenon in Ancient Rhetoric, as well as from traditional oral performance techniques. The analyses here presented are based on conversational theories and discourse analysis.
