A geodiversidade é o conjunto de elementos abióticos da paisagem natural que pode ser a atração principal de tal experiência. Nesta pesquisa o desafio foi investigar se a geodiversidade faz parte da experiência turística do turista na trilha das Cataratas dentro do Parque Nacional do Iguaçu e se existe, portanto, uma experiência de geodiversidade. A revisão da literatura sobre geodiversidade e turismo, inclusive de geoturismo, apontou a necessidade de aprofundar a investigação de modo que o turista fosse a principal unidade de análise. O local foi escolhido por guardar características que interessam à pesquisa: a) paisagem com geodiversidade bem exposta, b) consolidação como principal produto turístico do destino Foz do Iguaçu, c) ser a unidade de conservação do estado do Paraná que mais recebe turistas, e d) ser o segundo parque nacional que mais recebe turistas nacionais e internacionais do Brasil, chegando à marca dos 1.788.922 turistas em 2017, ano que se deu essa investigação. De abordagem qualitativa, esta pesquisa foi baseada em estudo de caso único no qual o turista foi a unidade principal de análise. O método shadowing foi utilizado para a coleta das informações em campo, as quais somadas ao levantamento documental e bibliográfico foram tratadas por meio da análise de conteúdo e interpretadas com base no aporte conceitual do turismo, experiência turística e domínios da experiência, combinados com as concepções de geodiversidade e geoturismo. A pesquisa foi realizada em área de visitação do Parque Nacional do Iguaçu, na trilha das Cataratas. Este é o caminho em que o turista tem melhor visão das cataratas e é a única atividade já inclusa no ingresso do parque. O estudo concluiu que a experiência turística é de domínio predominantemente estético. Os turistas não identificam espontaneamente o que vem, como geodiversidade. Ou seja, não percebem os processos naturais, onde se inclui o geológico, necessário para a formação daquela paisagem que o encanta/atrai, ou ainda, a percepção dos elementos geológicos explícitos envolvidos, tais como as rochas de basalto, ou a sua cor escura, por exemplo. Os termos mencionados pelos turistas sobre elementos abióticos são aqueles que compõem a paisagem visual que lhes é mostrada. The tourist is the subject of this process. Geodiversity is the set of abiotic elements of the natural landscape that may be the main attraction of such an experience. In this research the challenge was to investigate if the geodiversity is part of the tourist experience of the tourists in the Cataratas' trail inside the Iguaçu's National Park and if there is a geodiversity experience. The literature review on geodiversity and tourism, including geotourism, pointed out the need to deepen the research so that the tourist was the main unit of the analysis. The site was chosen for keeping characteristics that are of interest of the research: a) the landscape with well exposed geodiversity, b) the consolidation as the main tourist attraction of Foz do Iguaçu, c) being the conservative unit of the state of Paraná that receives more tourists, and d) to be the second Brazilian national park that receives the most national and international tourists, reaching the mark of 1,788,922 tourists in 2017, the year that this research was given. From a qualitative approach, this research was based on a single case study in which the tourist was the main unit of analysis. The shadowing method was used to collect the data in the field, which added to the documentary and bibliographical survey were treated through content analysis and the interpretation was based on the conceptual contribution of tourism, tourism experience and experience realms, combined with the conceptions of geodiversity and geotourism. The research was carried out in the visitation area of the Iguaçu's National Park, in the Cataratas' trail. This is the way in which the tourist has a better view of the falls and is the only activity already included in the entrance of the park. The study concluded that the touristic experience is predominantly aesthetic. Tourists do not spontaneously identify what they see, such as geodiversity. That is, they do not perceive the natural processes, which include the geological, necessary for the formation of that landscape that enchants / attracts him, or even the perception of the explicit geological elements involved, such as basalt rocks, or their dark color, for example. The terms mentioned by tourists on abiotic elements are those that make up the visual landscape shown to them.
