Na obra, Salústio trabalha um evento ocorrido em 63 a.C. durante o consulado de Cícero e que ficou conhecido na História como a Conjuração de Catilina. Para além de examinar a Conjuração desse aristocrata de nome Catilina, tido como personificação de todo mal pelo qual passava a República no final do século I a.C., Salústio nos fornece um vivo relato sobre a situação da República nesse período: conjurações de aristocratas contra aristocratas, corrupção, dívidas e afrouxamento da moral dos romanos são temas chave da crítica estabelecida pelo autor. A guerra, nesse contexto, tem um papel fundamental: é o princípio da discórdia civil bem como causa do aprofundamento dos problemas nas instituições da República, pois cria uma personificação do poder nas mãos de uns poucos generais. Dessa forma, o foco da presente dissertação é examinar o papel da guerra e do poder pessoal no texto Salustiano De Bellum Catilinae. Para tanto, em um primeiro momento, estabelecemos os principais conceitos que nortearam a pesquisa, a saber, Coniuratio (Conjuração) e Bellum (guerra). Uma vez estabelecidos esses conceitos, nos dedicamos ao exame da obra de Salústio, tendo como elemento norteador a guerra e o Poder Pessoal, buscando no texto compreender em quê circunstâncias Salústio utiliza esses conceitos. Em termos gerais, podemos pontuar que o autor lança mão desses termos em pontos chave da narrativa, a saber, quando critica a momento histórico pelo qual passava a República: a Guerra, nesse sentido, serve a Salústio como meio pelo qual julga o status quo da República sendo, então, fundamental para a compreensão do texto. República Romana.Abstract: The current dissertation has as its objective the analysis of the text of the author Gaius Salustius Crispus entitled Bellum Catilinae. In the piece, Salústio works with an event which occurred in 63 b.C, during the consulate of Cicero, that became known in the history as the Conspiracy of Catilina. Besides examining the conspiracy of this aristocrat named Catilina, held as personification of all evil that was happening at the Republic at the end of the first century b.C. Sallust provides us with a live reporting on the situation of the republic in this period: conjurations of aristocrats against aristocrats, corruption, debts and loosening of morality of the Romans are the key subjects of the critic established by the author. The war, in this context has a major role: it's the principle of the civil disagreement along with the cause of the deepening of the issues in the institutions of the Republic, because it creates a personification of the power in the hands of few generals. Thereby, the focus of the current dissertation is to examine the role of the War and the Personal Power in the text of Bellum Catilinae. To do so, on a first moment, we have set the main concepts that guide the research, to know Coniuratio (Conspiracy) and Bellum (War). Once these concepts are established, we devote ourselves to the examination of Salustio's piece, taking the War and the Personal Power as a guiding, searching in the text a way to comprehend in which circumstances Salustio uses those concepts. In general terms, we can punctuate that the author uses of those terms in key areas of the narrative, to know, when he criticises the historical moment which was happening at the Republic: the War, in this direction serves Salústio as a way to judge the status quo of the Republic, being then, fundamental for the comprehension of the text.
