Para tanto, avaliou-se o comportamento do S. macrophylla num sistema agroflorestai denominado "taungya", associando espécies resistentes de Meliáceas a H. grandella na presença e ausência do feijão caupi {Vigna unguiculata). As meliáceas resistentes foram: Azadirachta indica (Nim), Toona ciliata (Cedro australiano) e Khaya ivorensis (Mogno africano). Os resultados indicaram que a associação do S. macrophylla com essas meliáceas resistentes e no sistema agroflorestai com o feijão foram eficientes no controle da broca do mogno, bem como melhorou as propriedades físico-químicas do solo e reduziu os custos iniciais utilizados na implantação do sistema.The paper deals with the inducing resistance in the Swietenia macrophylla (Brazilian mahogany) for the control of the Meliaceae shootborer Hypsipyla grandella na insect pest whick limits the plantation of native Meliaceae in pure stands in the American Continent. To do so, one evaluated the behavior ofthe S. macrophylla in an agroforest system called "taungya", by associating species of Meliaceae resistant to H. grandella in the presence or in the absence of the cowpea bean Vigna unguiculata. The resistant Meliaceae were: Azadirachtha indica (neem), Toona ciliata (Australian cedar) and Khaya ivoremis (Aífican mahogany). The results have indicated that the association of the S. macrophylla with these resistant Meliaceae and in na agroforest system with cowpea bean were fairly good in the control of the shootborer.
