Resumo: Rabies is caused by an RNA virus of the genus Lyssavirus of the family Rhabdoviridae. The prevalence of rabies cases in the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Para, Rondonia and Roraima was verified from diagnosis conducted in 11 150 samples of brains of wild and domestic animals in the laboratory of the Instituto Evandro Chagas anger (IEC) at Bethlehem from 2000 to 2004 samples of domestic animals showed positivity 7,459% (704/9448). Positivity was found in dogs of Rondônia (8.53%), Acre (6.78%), For (4.35%) and Amazonas (2.90%). Of the 420 cats, 38 samples (9.05%) were positive, 16% (4/25) of Acre, 8.65% (18/208) and 8.74% for the (16/183) of Rondônia. In bovine positivity was 32.25% (30/93), 50% (11/22) of Acre, 60% (3/5) of the Amazon, 23.07% (6/26) and 25 for the , 64% (10/39) Rondonia. Positivity in horses was 24.00% (6/25), 50% (3/6) of Acre, 15.38% (2/13) and 16.66% for the (1/6) of Rondônia . Only one sample was positive for the pig, representing 16.66% (1/6). 1670 bats, two (0.12%) were positive in Para, where almost all species of domestic animals had at least one positive case except cleft and goats. The animal rabies has been gradually reduced over the years, but remains a serious public health problem.

Universidade Federal Rural da Amazônia/UFRA2011-05-26info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://ajaes.ufra.edu.br/index.php/ajaes/article/view/270Amazonian Journal of Agricultural Sciences Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Vol 46 No 1 (2006): RCA; 261 - 274Revista de Ciências Agrárias Amazonian Journal of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; v. 46 n. 1 (2006): RCA; 261 - 2742177-87601517-591Xreponame:Revista de Ciências Agrárias (Belém.
