Summary: This article aims to discuss the musical conception proposed by German philosopher Friedrich Schelling in his work ‘Philosophy of Art’, which conceives music as a real potency (Potenz) of Absolute. Therefore, we intent to underlie the peculiar and original aspects of Schelling’s ideas as they are demonstrated by his philosophical system of identities, in contrast with the romantic notion of absolute music.
