Mozambique experienced one of the terrible civil wars of the twentieth century that killed thousands of people and destroyed the social and economic fabric of the country. The relevance of this research is due to the gaps on the subject and the lack of information in academic circles about the true reasons for the war between brothers. It is intended to explain the real motivations of the last armed conflict in Mozambique, distinguish the main authors involved and illustrate the main socio-political, economic and cultural changes after the war. The civil war directly involved the Mozambican guerrilla movement (RENAMO), the Mozambican government, the Ian Smith regime (1990-2007) and the Apartheid regime (1948). With the end of the armed conflict, the winners were promoters of the war. Although the war did a lot of damage to the Mozambicans, there was a great victory, which is democracy.  For the materialization of this research the bibliographic method was used, when it was possible to obtain point of view and analyzes of national and international research.
