Resumo: | The article presents empirical research on the “Agricultural Learning of Juazeiro”, in Bahia, in its operation between 1919 to 1940, as a republican project, marked by the civilizing strategies of the agrarian elites as argued by Sonia Regina de Mendonça, when analyzing this type of schooling in the first republic / post abolition. It prioritizes the experiences of the apprentices of this agricultural education institution – boys and girls – based on the propositions of the cultural history of education and childhood, with the triad presentation, practice and appropriation, as well as the contribution of the analysis categories “school culture” and “Experience”, this being a contribution of English Social History. It highlights the evidence of the presence of poor and black children in the institution from a set of photographs from 1920, with the hetero-attribution methodology of racial classification, according to Maria Lucia Muller. In addition to this photographic record, official documents are used, such as messages from Presidents of the Republic, Reports, Messages and Communication from the Ministry of Agriculture, Industry and Commerce of Brazil. |

Neste artigo priorizamos as experiências dos aprendizes dessa instituição de ensino agrícola – meninos e meninas – a partir das proposições da história cultural da educação e da infância, com a tríade representação, prática e apropriação, assim como o aporte das categorias de análise “cultura escolar” e “experiência”, sendo esta uma contribuição da História Social Inglesa. Destacamos a evidência da presença de crianças pobres e negras na instituição a partir de um conjunto de fotografias de 1920, com a metodologia de heteroatribuição da classificação racial, conforme Maria Lúcia Muller.
