Resumo: This article discusses the novel The Endless Body through an analysis of the fictional elements produced by the author to shed light on a moment obscured by official history: the military dictatorship. This is about the relationship between testimonial literature (SELIGMANN-SILVA, 2003; GAGNEBIN, 2006), memory (RICOEUR, 2007) and history (BENJAMIN, 1994), which can be noted in the author's work. A critical analysis of literature is adopted as a methodological strategy, highlighting the presence of laughter in many characters as a coercive form to replace anguish and suffering in the face of torture. The presented analysis endorses the understanding of literature as a vector in the production of an ethical memory about those oppressed by the regime of oppression.

Trata-se aqui da relação entre literatura de testemunho (SELIGMANN-SILVA, 2003; GAGNEBIN, 2006), memória (RICOEUR, 2007) e história (BENJAMIN, 1994), que pode ser notada na obra da autora. Adota-se como estratégia metodológica a análise crítica de literatura, destacando a presença do riso em muitas personagens como uma forma coercitiva para substituir a angústia (FREUD, 1926) e o sofrimento diante da tortura.
