TECHNOLOGICAL TRANSFORMATION AND COMPETITIVE STRATEGY: A MULTICASE STUDY

Resumo: The objective of this multicase study was to evaluate the relations between competitiveness, strategy and technological innovation. Another proposal was to identify the process of insertion of the technological variable in the strategic formulation of four organizations representing sectors like cellulose, siderurgy, pharmaceuticals and nuclear energy. Three different levels were verified in the insertion of the technological variable in the strategic management of the organizations studied: strategic analysis, strategic decisions and strategic implementation. The main technology sources usually employed by these organizations were also identified. Finally, it is suggested that the five forces microeconomic model of Porter can receive contributions in the sense of incorporating cooperative strategies present in the industrial structure by creating cooperativity indicators.

También se propuso a identificar como es realizada la inserción de la variable tecnológica en la formulación estratégica de cuatro organizaciones representativas de los sectores de celulose, siderurgía, químico-farmacéutico y nuclear. Se constató que la inserción de la variable tecnológica en la gestión estratégica de las organizaciones estudiadas ocurre en tres niveles distintos: análisis estratégica, decisiones estratégicas y implementación estratégica. También fueron identificadas las principales fuentes de tecnología normalmente utilizadas por esas organizaciones. Por fin se a sugerido que el modelo microeconómico de las cinco fuerzas de Porter puede receber contribuciones en el sentido de incorporar estrategias cooperativas existentes en la estructura industrial por medio de la creación de indicadores de cooperatividad.A proposta de trabalho deste estudo multicaso foi avaliar as relações existentes entre competitividade, estratégia e inovação tecnológica. Também propôs-se a identificar como é realizada a inserção da variável tecnológica na formulação estratégica de quatro organizações representativas dos setores de celulose, siderurgia, químico-farmacêutico e nuclear. Constatou-se que a inserção da variável tecnológica na gestão estratégica das organizações estudadas ocorre em três níveis distintos: análise estratégica, decisões estratégicas e implementação estratégica. Também foram identificadas as principais fontes de tecnologia normalmente utilizadas por essas organizações.
