ETHICS AS AN INTERNATIONAL VALUE-ADDING STRATEGY OF COLORED COTTON IN BRAZIL

Resumo: | The issue of this research is based on the role of ethics in the international development strategies of enterprises. Here, within the context of the Brazilian State of Paraiba, a region long characterized by highly archaic structures of production and social relations. It is in this setting that we are interested in highlighting a recent and very promising experience: the cultivation and the valorization/creation of additional value of, colored cotton. At the same time, it reflects a possible evolution of the value systems of certain local leaders/decision-makers, the coordinated actions of certain stakeholders such as research centers, agricultural and production cooperatives, local associations... and the practice of original strategies of product differentiation and valorization both in the national and international markets. In this context, the purpose of the present study is simply to show that an ethical strategy that combines the dimensions of sustainable development and social responsibility is viable under certain conditions and even when it is not exclusive. In particular, it represents a solution in terms of adding value to the natural products from the Sertão (a semi-arid region in the northeast of Brazil), bearing in mind that this strategy will have to face those of other enterprises established in the same market and that have opted for price policies based on the exploitation of the local labor force. |

Ella fue aplicada en Brasil, en el Estado de Paraíba, un lugar marcado por estructuras de producción y de relaciones sociales mucho arcaicas. Fue en este contexto que nosotros nos interesamos en poner en evidencia una experiencia reciente y repleta de esperanza: La cultura y la valorización del algodón colorido. Ella refleja a la vez una posible evolución del sistema de valor de algunos dirigentes locales, sobre las acciones coordinadas entre diversos actores: centros de investigación, cooperativas agrícolas y de producción, asociaciones locales y sobre la práctica de estrategias originales de diferenciación y de valorización de los productos en el mercado nacional y internacional. En este contexto, nuestra intención es tan sólo mostrar que una estrategia ética que asocia dimensiones de desarrollo sostenible y de responsabilidad social es viable, bajo algunas condiciones y mismo cuando ella no es exclusiva. Ella es una solución en particular para la valorización de los productos naturales de la región, sabiendo que esta estrategia podrá confrontarse a la otras de empresas ubicadas en el mismo mercado y que opten por políticas de precios basadas en la explotación de la mano de obra local.TEXTO (PDF) EM INGLÊSA problemática desta pesquisa se baseia no papel da ética nas estratégias de desenvolvimento das empresas. Ela foi aplicada no Brasil, no Estado da Paraíba, um lugar marcado por estruturas de produção e de relações sociais muito arcaicas. Foi neste contexto que nós nos interessamos em colocar em evidência uma experiência recente e cheia de esperança: a cultura e a valorização do algodão colorido. Ela reflete ao mesmo tempo uma possível evolução do sistema de valor de alguns dirigentes locais, sobre as ações coordenadas entre diversos atores: centros de pesquisa, cooperativas agrícolas e de produção, associações local…e sobre a prática de estratégias originais de diferenciação e de valorização dos produtos no mercado nacional e internacional. Neste contexto, a nossa intenção é simplesmente mostrar que uma estratégia ética que associa dimensões de desenvolvimento sustentável e de responsabilidade social é viável, sob algumas condições e mesmo quando ela não é exclusiva.
