DISTINGUISHING CAPACITIES AND FINANCIAL STRATEGIES OF ENTERPRISE MANAGEMENT FOR VALUE CREATION AND DESTRUCTION

Resumo: | Due to competitiveness, fast-changing businesses and the globalization of markets demand that enterprise managers adopt increasingly efficient attitudes and techniques, allowing for the management to concentrate in increasing the owners’ wealth by eliminating the distortions that result from using historic data of traditional accounting records. A company’s success is measured by its capacity to generate wealth for its owners in a given time and not merely by a quick view of accounting results. The goal of this paper is to analyze the basic determinants of value creative enterprise management. These determinants were conceptualized using the distinguishing capacities and financial strategies variables. The sample was composed of 235 companies from the various sectors of Brazilian economy. The data were analyzed with multivariate analysis, checking for the existence of significant differences among the companies studied. It was verified that “operational” financial strategies and distinguishing capacities of “business relations” were more intensely used by value creative companies. Value destructive companies made more intense use of “operational” financial strategies and distinguishing capacities of “business relations”. The distinguishing difference between value creative and value destructive companies was established by the real evolution stability, that is, by the operational returns stability. |

El éxito de una empresa se mide por su capacidad de crear riqueza a sus propietarios en un determinado tiempo y no solamente por una visión efímera de los resultados contables. El presente trabajo tiene el objetivo de analizar los factores determinantes básicos de la gestión empresarial creadora de valor. Estos factores fueron conceptualizados a través de las variables capacidades diferenciadoras y estrategias financieras. La muestra está constituida por 235 empresas de los distintos sectores de la economía brasileña, elegidas de forma aleatoria. Se analizaron los datos a través del análisis multivariado, buscando identificar la existencia de diferencias significativas entre las empresas estudiadas. Se observó que las empresas que crearon valor utilizaron con mayor intensidad estrategias financieras “operacionales” y capacidades diferenciadoras de “relaciones de negocios”. Las empresas destructoras de valor utilizan con más intensidad estrategias financieras “operacionales” y capacidades diferenciadoras de “relaciones de negocios”. La diferencia significativa entre las empresas que crearon valor respecto de las que no lo crearon estuvo determinada por la estabilidad de la evolución real, es decir, por la estabilidad de los retornos operacionales.Dada a competitividade, a velocidade das transformações dos negócios e a globalização dos mercados exigem dos gestores empresariais atitudes e técnicas cada vez mais eficazes permitindo à administração concentrar-se no incremento da riqueza aos proprietários eliminando as distorções resultantes da utilização de dados históricos dos registros contábeis tradicionais. O sucesso de uma empresa é medido pela sua capacidade de criar riqueza a seus proprietários num determinado tempo e não simplesmente numa visão efêmera dos resultados contábeis. O presente trabalho objetiva analisar determinantes básicos da gestão empresarial criadora de valor. Estes determinantes foram conceituados por meio das variáveis capacidades diferenciadoras e estratégias financeiras. A amostra foi composta de 235 empresas aleatórias dos diversos setores da economia brasileira. Os dados foram analisados por meio da análise multivariada, verificando se existem diferenças significativas entre as empresas estudadas. Observou-se que as empresas que criaram valor utilizaram com maior intensidade estratégias financeiras “operacionais” e capacidades diferenciadoras de “relações de negócios”. As empresas destruidoras de valor utilizam com mais intensidade estratégias financeiras “operacionais” e capacidades diferenciadoras “relações de negócios”.
