SYMBOBLIC INTERATIONISM: A METHODOLOGICAL SUGGESTION FOR A RESEARCH IN ADMINISTRATION

Resumo: Throughout a theoretical discussion, this article aims at offering a general view upon a methodological perspective frequently discussed in the works on sociology and on social psychology: the symbolic interationism. According to Schlenker (1980), the symbolic interationism emphasizes the symbolic meanings and how the symbols relate with the social interaction. The interationism could be understood as a school of microsociology, besides constituting not only a theoretical perspective, but also a methodological orientation within the social psychology. While attempting to insert the symbolic interationism within the organizational field, we have tried to locate it within the social research and within the perspectives of the organizational theory, present its essential characteristics and its methodological implications. As suggested themes where this theoretical perspective could be adopted for the understanding of the organizations we mention: communication in the organizations, organizational change, organizational culture, power and institutional theory.

Segundo Schlenker (1980) el interacionismo simbólico salienta los significados simbólicos y como los símbolos se relacionan con la interación social. El interacionismo se puede entender como una escuela de la microsociología, además de constituir tanto una perspectiva teórica, cuanto una orientación metodológica dentro de la psicología social. En el sentido de procurar inserir el interacionismo simbólico en el campo organizacional se procura situarlo en el contexto de la investigación social y de las perspectivas de la teoría organizacional, presentar sus características esenciales y sus implicaciones metodológicas. Se sugiere entonces como temas donde esta perspectiva teórica se pueda adoptar para el entendimiento de las organizaciones, estudios sobre: comunicación en las organizaciones, gerenciamiento de impresiones, cambio organizacional, cultura organizacional, poder y teoría institucional.Este artigo, através de uma discussão teórica, procura oferecer uma visão geral de uma perspectiva metodológica discutida freqüentemente na literatura de sociologia e de psicologia social - o interacionismo simbólico. Segundo Schlenker (1980) o interacionismo simbólico salienta os significados simbólicos e como os símbolos relacionam-se com a interação social. O interacionismo pode ser entendido como uma escola da microsociologia, além de constituir tanto uma perspectiva teórica, quanto uma orientação metodológica dentro da psicologia social. No sentido de procurar inserir o interacionismo simbólico no campo organizacional procura-se situá-lo no contexto da pesquisa social e das perspectivas da teoria organizacional, apresentar as suas características essenciais e as suas implicações metodológicas.
