Resumo: The blood culture is a very important exam indicated in clinical evidences of bacteremia. Its result contributes to identify the etiologic agent and to determine the specific therapeutic decision. So, this investigation was carried out in order to evaluate how the nurses, nursing technicians and auxiliaries used to collect blood for culture. The data was gathered through direct observation and structured individual interview with 12 (42,86%) nursing professionals that worked at the nursing section of medical clinics in a teaching, general and public hospital of the state of São Paulo. The results showed that several attitudes were adopted concerning the anti-septics, volume of blood collected, collecting in time of fever, use of mask and gloves, handwashing, etc. This situation is very worrying since these features can interfere in the result of blood culture.

Así, los autores propusieron realizar un estudio para evaluar como los enfermeros, técnicos y auxiliares de enfermería han realizado la colecta de sangre para hemocultura. Los datos fueron obtenidos a través de la observación directa y entrevista estructurada individual com 12 (42.86%) profesionales de enfermería que trabajan en las unidades de hospitalización de clínica médica de un hospital de enseñanza del interior del estado de São Paulo. Los resultados evidencian que diversas conductas son adoptadas en lo que refiere a anti-sépticos, volumen de sangre colectada, colecta en pico febril, uso de máscaras y guantes, lavado de manos, entre otros. Esta cuestión es muy preocupante, una vez que estos aspectos pueden interferir en el resultado de la hemocultura.A hemocultura é um exame de importância singular em suspeitas clínicas de bacteremia, pois seu resultado possibilita a identificação do agente etiológico e contribui para a determinação da conduta terapêutica específica. Assim, realizou-se este estudo objetivando avaliar como os enfermeiros, técnicos e auxiliares de enfermagem realizavam a coleta de sangue para hemocultura. Os dados foram obtidos através de observação direta e entrevista estruturada individual com 12(42,86%) funcionários da enfermagem que trabalhavam nas unidades de internação de clínica médica de um hospital de ensino, público e geral do interior paulista. Os resultados evidenciaram que diversas condutas são adotadas no que refere a anti-sépticos, volume de sangue coletado, coleta em picofebril, uso de máscaras e luvas, lavagem de mãos, dentre outros.
