Sexual active women’s beliefs in choosing or not contraceptive methods

Resumo: We have interviewed 23 women from December 2000 to April 2001 at a Public Health Unit on a Family Health Program, aiming to analyze their beliefs regarding the use or not of contraceptive methods, and to identify their centrality or periphery axle. 123 beliefs were emitted and categorized in five types, each one of them classified in 11 structural units, representing rationales for supporting the beliefs. There was a tendency to centralize the beliefs, with a worrisome 47.15% of the women pertaining to type B: unwilling to accept changes. There is a need to discuss beliefs and partners as part of educational programs.

There is a need to discuss beliefs and partners as part of educational programs.Entrevistamos 23 mujeres de una Unidad Básica de Salud con el Programa de Salud de la Familia implantado, objetivando analizar sus creencias para el uso o no de metodos anticonceptivos e identificar el eje de centralidad y el periférico. 123 emisiones de creencias fueron categorizadas en los 5 tipos, siendo cada uno clasificado dentro de las 11 unidades estructurantes de las razones para las creencias. Las creencias tienden para la centralidad, siendo que 47,5% de ellas eran del tipo B; resistentes a cambios. Es sugerido la inclusión de discusiones acerca de las creencias y las parejas en el planeamiento del programa educativo.Entrevistou-se 23 mulheres em uma Unidade Básica de Saúde com o Programa de Saúde da Família implantado, entre 12/2000 e 4/2001, objetivando analisar suas crenças para uso ou não de métodos contraceptivos e identificar seu eixo de centralidade/perifericidade. Obteve-se 123 emissões de crenças, categorizadas em 5 tipos, sendo cada um classificado em 11 unidades estruturantes representando as razões em que as crenças se alicerçam. Verificou-se tendência das crenças para a centralidade, sendo preocupante que 47,15% delas tenham sido do tipo B: resistentes à mudança.
