Resumo: This is a qualitative study, of the exploratory kind, that seeks knowledge about expectations, feelings and experiences of the father during the delivery and the birth of his child. The thematic content analysis according Bardin (1977) revealed the themes: “I expected I could be with her through the whole thing” and “A lot of emotions, you have to hold yourself ...”. The conclusion reached was that the father have the wish to be present in every moment related to delivery and birth of his baby.

La análisis de contenido de tipo temático prenizada por Bardin (1977) reveló los temas: “Yo esperaba que podría estar com ella en el transcurso de todo” y “Mucha emoción, uno no sabe cómo aguantarse”. Se há concluido que los padres tienen un deseo muy fuerte de estar presente en todos los momentos relacionados con el parto y nacimiento de su bebé.Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, do tipo exploratório, que busca conhecer as expectativas, sentimentos e vivências do pai durante o processo de parto e nascimento de seu bebê. A análise de conteúdo, de acordo com Bardin (1977), revelou os temas: “Eu esperava que eu pudesse estar junto com ela, no decorrer de tudo” e “Muita emoção, tem que se segurar ...”.
