Resumo: | The aim of this investigation is to unveil the adult patients companions at a hospital. This descriptive and exploratory study analises with quality metodology the contents of 42 patients companions interviews. A statistical analysis of demografic data and interviews contents was made, resulting in the following categories: patients companionship importance within the hospital, their perceptions about the staff, the quality of the relation between the companions and the patients, the quality of the information received by the patients companions, and difficulties founded by them. The results show that patients companions are women, age over 40 years, relatives, and they live with the patient. It was proved that they accompany the patient to help him/her and to offer emotional support. However, most of the patients companions don’t receive information from the staff about how to take care of the patient. So, they use their intuiton and good sense for the patient care. |

So, they use their intuiton and good sense for the patient care.El objetivo de esta investigación es desvelar quién es el acompañante de pacientes adultos internados en una institución hospitalar. Se trata de un estudio exploratório y descriptivo, en que usamos la metodologia cualitativa de análisis de contenido de entrevistas de quarenta e dos acompañantes. Realizamos una análisis estatística con los dados demograficos de los sujetos y posteriormente analizamos las entrevistas, de donde, nacierón las siguientes categorias: importancia del acompañante dentro del hospital, percibir la equipe que cuida del paciente, calidad de relacionamiento entre acompañante y paciente, cualidad de la información recibida por el acompañante y dificultades encontradas por el acompañante. Los resultados evidencian que los acompañantes son familiares, mujeres, con edad superior a 40 años y la mayoria vive con el paciente. Constatamos que acompañar el paciente tiene como objetivo ajudarlo y proporionarle apoyo emocional. Entretanto, la mayoria de los acompañantes no reciben informaciones de la equipe multidiciplinar de como ajudarlo, por eso, utilizan la intuición y la sensibilidad.O objetivo desta investigação é desvelar quem é o acompanhante de pacientes adultos internados em instituição hospitalar. É um estudo exploratório e descritivo, no qual utilizamos a metodologia qualitativa de análise de conteúdo de entrevistas de quarenta e dois acompanhantes. Realizamos uma análise estatística com os dados demográficos dos sujeitos e posteriormente analisamos as entrevistas, das quais emergiram as seguintes categorias: importância do acompanhante dentro do hospital, percepção em relação à equipe que cuida do paciente, qualidade de relacionamento entre acompanhante e paciente, qualidade da informação recebida pelo acompanhante e dificuldades encontradas peloacompanhante. Os resultados evidenciam que os acompanhantes são familiares, mulheres, com idade superior à 40 anos, sendo que a maioria reside com o paciente. Constatamos que acompanhar o paciente tem por fim auxiliá-lo e proporcionar-lhe apoio emocional.
