Resumo: The article examines the relations that may exist between gender and holistic representations of health and illness having medicine flower as approach’s parameter. It presents a short traditional medicine history and the appearence of alternative therapeutic practice. Buy understanding gender like a process of social contruction it suggests a theoretical account proposition that explains the majority presence of women between users and flower therapists.

Presenta un breve historico del desarrollo de la medicina tradicional y del surgimiento de las llamadas prácticas terapeuticas alternativas. Al entender el género como un proceso de construcción social sugiere una propuesta de abordage teórica que explique la mayor presencia de mujeres entre los usuários y los terapeutas florales.O artigo examina as possíveis relações entre gênero e representações holistas de saúde – doença tendo como parâmetro o uso da medicina floral. Apresenta um breve histórico do desenvolvimento da medicina tradicional e o surgimento das chamadas práticas terapêuticas alternativas.
