Resumo: This study aims to investigate the meaning of newborn care under the perspective of the nursing carer of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. A qualitative research was developed with phenomenological approach and the instrument to collect the data was a semi-structured interview. The informers of the study were five (5) nurses and four (4) nursing assistants and technicians. Through the care of self and of the other the human being’s development is made possible, while a being that cares.

Para este objetivo se utilizó la pesquisa cualitativa de sentido fenomenológico, y el instrumento para recolección de datos fue la entrevista semi-estructurada. Las participantes fueron cinco (5) enfermeras, cuatro (4) auxiliares y técnicos de enfermería. Concluyese que con el cuidado del uno y del otro, se hace posible el desarrollo del ser humano, siendo un ser de cuidado.O estudo tem por objetivo investigar o significado do cuidado ao neonato sob o olhar dos cuidadores de enfermagem de uma unidade de terapia intensiva neonatal de um hospital geral no Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa com abordagem fenomenológica, onde foi utilizada entrevista semi-estruturada. Participaram do estudo cinco (5) enfermeiros, quatro (4) auxiliares e técnicos de enfermagem.
