Homecare of children under chemotherapy from the perspective of the family caregiver.

Resumo: Being a chronic disease, cancer in children is a progressive disease that imposes changes in the life of the children and their families, requiring adaptations and strategies to face the new situation. This qualitative study aimed at understanding how family caregivers experience home care of children under chemotherapy. This article discusses the case of a caregiver of a child with cancer cared at the daycare of the service of oncology-hematology of a public pediatric general hospital in Fortaleza, Ceará, Brazil. Data were collected through interviews and home visits, in August, 2006, and analyzed based on Sociological Phenomenology. Results showed that the home care of children with cancer requires from the caregiver new responsibilities, causes sudden changes in their habits, it is based on love, and understood as a gratifying action.

Se realizó un estudio cualitativo que buscó comprender cómo el cuidador familiar vive el cuidado domiciliario del niño en quimioterapia. En este artículo se analiza el caso de la cuidadora de un niño con cáncer, atendido en un hospital día de un servicio de Onco-Hematología de un hospital público general de pediatría de Fortaleza, Ceará, Brasil. La recolección de datos se realizó mediante entrevista y visita domiciliaria en agosto del 2006. El análisis de los datos se basó en la Fenomenología Sociológica. Los resultados revelaron que el cuidado domiciliario del niño con cáncer le atribuye al cuidador nuevas responsabilidades y provoca cambios repentinos en su día a día y que se caracteriza por el ofrecimiento de cariño y es entendido como una acción gratificante, engrandecedora.Como doença crônica , o câncer infantil assume a forma de doença progressiva, que impõe modificações na vida da criança e da família, exigindo readaptações e estratégicas de enfrentamento. Foi realizado um estudo qualitativo que objetivou compreender como o cuidador familiar vivencia o cuidado domiciliar à criança em quimioterapia. Neste artigo é analisado o caso da cuidadora de uma criança com câncer atendida no hospital-dia de um serviço de Onco- Hematologia de um hospital público geral de pediatria de Fortaleza, Ceará. A coleta de dados for realizada por meio de entrevista e visita domiciliar, em agosto de 2006. A análise dos dados foi embasada na Fenomenologia Sociológica.
