Resumo: It is a report on an experience – a volunteer apprenticeship carried out at Viva Maria Passage Home located in Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This study aimed at learning about the domestic violence issue, identifying the role of the health professionals in the care to women who are victims of violence and performing activities with the dwellers and their children. Such activities comprised workshops on health education. The clientele involved women and their children who lived in the passage home between August and December 2001. The men-tioned experience evidences the possibility of breaking up the violence chain that links people who is submitted to it

Tuvo, como objetivo, conocer la temática de la violencia doméstica, dentificar el papel de los profesionales de salud en la atención a mujeres víctimas de violencia y realizar actividades con las moradoras y sus hijos. Esas actividades constaron de talleres sobre el tema educación en salud. La populación fue constituida por mujeres y sus hijos, que vivían en la casa, entre agosto y diciembre de 2001. La experiencia explicita la posibilidad del rompimiento de la cadena de violencia que interliga las personas que a ella son sometidasTrata-se de um relato de experiência – um estágio voluntário, realizado na Casa de Apoio Viva Maria, de Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil.
