Resumo: It is about a quantitative, descriptive and exploratory study with the objective of investigating the difficulties faced by the elderly regarding therapeutic medicaments. The sampling unit: elderly of both sexes, integrated into the area of the Health Unit totaling 45 subjects. The results have demonstrated that the most utilized medicaments were the antihypertensive ones. The reasons that interfere with adhesion to the treatment: the use of several medications concomitantly by 15 elderly; 5 out of them have not understood the medical prescription. The drawn conclusion is that the elderly consume several medications and present understanding difficulties, resulting in nonagreement with the imposed treatment and possible damages to their health.

La unidad de muestreo: ancianos, de los dos sexos, integrantes del área de alcance de la unidad de salud, totalizando 45 ancianos. Los resultados demostraron que los medicamentos más empleados por 24 ancianos son los antihipertensivos. Los motivos que interfieren en la adhesión al tratamiento: el uso de varias medicaciones concomitantemente en 15 ancianos; 5 ancianos no entendieron la prescripción médica. Se concluye que el anciano consume varias medicaciones y presenta dificultades de entendimiento lo que acarrea discordancia del tratamiento impuesto y posibles perjuicios para su salud.Estudo quantitativo, descritivo e exploratório com o objetivo de investigar as dificuldades dos idosos com a terapêutica medicamentosa. A unidade amostral: idosos, ambos os sexos, integrantes da área de abrangência da unidade de saúde, totalizando 45 idosos. Os resultados demonstraram que os medicamentos mais utilizados por 24 idosos são os antihipertensivos. Os motivos que interferem na adesão ao tratamento: uso de várias medicações concomitantemente em 15 idosos; 5 idosos não entenderam a prescrição médica.
