Resumo: | This article proposes a reflection on the notion of stage presence. In reviewing the terms frequently used to evoke this essential quality of acting – perceptible to anyone but always difficult to define –, the author shows to which degree the concept of presence can be oscillating and ideological. From a historical approach, he discusses the evolution of ideas and criteria for the actor's presence since staging, in the late nineteenth entury, began to assert itself as a form of art. His reflection is based mainly on the experiments developed by Stanislavski and, later on, by Ariane Mnouchkine. In general, the author demonstrates how presence studies allow for an assessment of the actor's impact upon the public. |

Passant en revue les termes fréquemment utilisés pour évoquer cette qualité essentielle du travail de l’acteur – perceptible aux yeux de tous, mais toujours rétive aux définitions – l’auteur montre combien le concept de présence est fluctuant et idéologique. À partir d’une approche historique, il retrace l’évolution des idées et des critères relatifs à la présence de l’acteur depuis que la mise en scène, à la fin du XIXème siècle, s’est affirmée en tant qu’art. Sa réflexion s’appuie notamment sur les expériences développées par Stanislavski et, plus tard, par Ariane Mnouchkine. D’une manière générale, l’auteur démontre comment les études de la présence permettent de mesurer l’impact produit par l’acteur sur le public. Este artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre a noção de presença cênica. Ao passar em revista os termos frequentemente utilizados para evocar essa qualidade essencial do trabalho do ator – perceptível aos olhos de todos, mas sempre difícil a definir –, o autor mostra o quanto o conceito de presença é oscilante e ideológico. A partir de uma abordagem histórica, ele discorre sobre a evolução das ideias e dos critérios relativos à presença do ator desde que a encenação, no final do século XIX, começou a se afirmar como arte. Sua reflexão se baseia notadamente sobre as experiências desenvolvidas por Constantin Stanislavski e, mais tarde, por Ariane Mnouchkine.
