Resumo: The text discusses the work Murmúrios (1960) by the Maranhão-based black poet Mariana Luz (1871- 1960), second woman to get into Maranhão’s Letters Academy in 1949. Teacher, poet, artist and playwright, Mariana Luz has suffered, as many other black artists, an invisibility process of her life and work. Here, we aim to recover this black poet trajectory and to analyze her lyric production. To discuss Mariana Luz’s poetry is essential not only for the Brazilian Literature History, but for the historical reparation of her invisibility.

Professora, poeta, artista plástica e teatróloga, Mariana Luz sofreu, assim como muitos artistas negros, um processo de invisibilidade de sua vida e obra. Aqui procuramos recuperar a trajetória da poeta e analisar sua produção lírica. A pesquisa, de cunho predominantemente bibliográfico, também se vale de análise documental baseada na pesquisa hemerográfica de textos jornalísticos. A leitura analítica-interpretativa do texto poético, além de explorar suas tendências estéticas, busca evidenciar as relações dessa produção com a atmosfera social e cultural daquele período finissecular, em especial nos poemas que abordam a melancolia e a figura feminina.
