PREDICTABILITY OF THE ENTERPRISES COMPETITIVENESS: A STUDY OF ORGANIZATIONAL PERFORMANCE INDICATORS

Resumo: | The objective of this study is to assess the position of companies within ( ) 2005-2007 provides a competitive position in the same period ( ) 2010-2012, for a metric indicator of the dimensions most frequently in the literature: organizational performance and growth. To this end, we selected all firms with complete data for the two periods referred to in database Economatica 173 companies resulting in 16 different economic sectors. Data were subjected to the treatment of z - scores to eliminate the " market effect ", companies were ranked by a regression line with a single factor of the indicators of the first period in three groups (high, medium and low) and following was used discriminant analysis method with the dependent variable the variable using the classification of period 1, with respect to the independent variables of the period 2. The study results indicate that performance metrics, specifically profitability of equity combined with measures of growth (sales, profit and assets) are able to predict the competitiveness of 57 % for companies in the group of high competitiveness, 45 % for the average competitiveness of companies and 59 % for the low competitiveness, Indicating possible to predict for a few years the competitive position in the group 1. The study replica investigated internationally theme for Brazilian companies. |

The study replica investigated internationally theme for Brazilian companies.O objetivo desse estudo é avaliar se a posição da competitividade de empresas no período (p1) de 2005 a 2007 prevê a posição da competitividade delas no período (p2 ) de 2010 a 2012, por uma métrica de indicadores das dimensões mais frequentes encontradas na literatura: desempenho organizacional e crescimento. Para tal, foram selecionadas, no banco de dados da Economatica, todas as empresas com dados completos nos dois períodos referidos, resultando em 163 empresas de 16 segmentos econômicos distintos. Os dados foram submetidos ao tratamento do z-escore para se eliminar o “efeito do mercado”, e as empresas foram classificadas, por meio de uma reta de regressão com fator único dos indicadores do primeiro período, em três grupos (alta, média e baixa competitividade). A seguir foi aplicado o método de análise discriminante com a variável, usando como variável dependente a classificação do período (p1) em relação às variáveis independentes do período (p2). Os resultados do estudo indicam que as métricas de desempenho, especificamente rentabilidade do patrimônio líquido, combinadas com as medidas de crescimento (das vendas, do lucro e do ativo) são capazes de prever a competitividade de 57% das empresas do grupo de alta competitividade, 45% das empresas de média competitividade e 59% das de baixa competitividade, evidenciando ser possível prever por alguns anos a posição da competitividade das empresas.
