EFFECTS OF THE BOLSA FAMÍLIA PROGRAM ON ECONOMIC WELL-BEING OF FAMILIES IN BRAZILIAN MACROREGIONS: A COMPUTABLE GENERAL EQUILIBRIUM ANALYSIS

This paper aims to analyze the impact of the Bolsa Família Program on the economic well-being of families of Brazilian regions, divided into ten income groups, with the guiding hypothesis that every real rate of return transferred to households via Bolsa Família program on GDP is positive and greater than unity. To achieve the proposed objectives, the analytical instrument used was the General Equilibrium Analysis Project of the Brazilian Economy (PAEG), an analytical set of static general equilibrium, multiregional and multisectoral. It was found that the government transfer to households via the Bolsa Família Program possess minimum direct effects, even raise the consumption and economic well-being of families of Brazilian regions, especially the lower classes. The program has a negative impact on the price of labor, which would make the effects of the soft program to the long-term, suggesting the need to adopt policies aimed at labor market to maintain the program results.
