Resumo: This paper aims to explain and characterize how the outward FDI is treated within the Brazilian and South Korean standard development. In this regard, at first the main characteristics of the Brazilian and South Korean industrialization process are discussed in a historical perspective, which was marked by the State conducting and planning. Brazilian’s polices to support the internationalization are not so intensive like South Korean’s. The comparative study between the two countries demonstrated that the performance of international integration is a result of how the industrialization process was conducted. The outward FDI from South Korea exposes a more consistent performance in quantitative terms, it is more geographically diverse and focused on the most technologically sophisticated sectors. Meanwhile the Brazilian outward FDI has grown significantly in the recent years, but has insufficient institutional care and is controlled by less sophisticated sectors.

In this regard, at first, we discuss the main characteristics of the Brazilian andSouth Korean economic development from a historical perspective, which points outto significant State intervention through conducting and planning the industrializationprocesses. Brazilian polices to support internationalization are not as intensive as in SouthKorea. The comparative study of the two countries demonstrated that the outcome ofthe performance of international integration is a result of driving the industrializationprocess in each country. The outward FDI from South Korea indicates more consistentperformance outcomes in quantitative terms, more geographic diversity, and a specificfocus on the most technologically sophisticated sectors. Meanwhile, the Brazilianoutward FDI has grown significantly in recent years; however it presents insufficientinstitutional support and is controlled by less sophisticated sectors.UFRGS2020-04-29info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/AnaliseEconomica/article/view/7258710.22456/2176-5456.72587Análise Econômica; Vol. 38 No. 75 (2020): Março/2020Análise Econômica; v. 38 n. 75 (2020): Março/20202176-54560102-9924reponame:Análise Econômica (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)instacron:UFRGSenghttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/AnaliseEconomica/article/view/72587/56886Copyright (c) 2020 Análise Econômicainfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessPerin, Fernanda SteinerCario, Silvio2020-06-29T21:49:14Zoai:seer.ufrgs.br:article/72587Revistahttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/AnaliseEconomicaPUBhttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/AnaliseEconomica/oai||rae@ufrgs.br2176-54560102-9924opendoar:2020-06-29T21:49:14Análise Econômica (Online) - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)false
