Resumo: This paper analyses the evolution and current configuration of the world and Brazilian furniture industries. Similarities and divergences between those industries are studied, and we conclude that those industries are similar regarding: low participation in industrial transformation value, occurrence of a large number of producers, and intensive use of labor. But the verticalization of the production is more frequent in the Brazilian furniture industry than in the world one. Concluding, we make some comments about the Brazilian furniture industry perspectives in the near future.

Verifica-se que essas indústrias são similares quanto à reduzida participação no valor da transformação industrial, quanto ao grande número de produtores e quanto à elevada utilização de mão-de-obra. No entanto elas divergem quanto à verticalização da produção de móveis, já que, no Brasil, essa indústria ainda é mais verticalizada.
