Resumo: The main goal of this paper is analysing globalization in the context of economic and social reforms implemented by China in its mixed model of socialism and market. The work sustains the hypothesis that developmentist states succeed in promoting competitive insertions. A developmentist state, according to Evans (2004), is characterized by a relative autonomy in relation to interests of international capital, undertaking partnerships and involving different actors, while searching sustainable growth of market activities and also adopting policies oriented to social inclusion while enhancing economic competitiveness. The results point to the Chinese model as representing a developmentist state that searches competitive insertion and sustainable growth.

Tais políticas são guiadas pela globalização, que traz consigo o aumento da concorrência e a necessidade de readequação dos modelos de produção. Nesse contexto, sustenta-se aqui a hipótese de que Estados desenvolvimentistas promovem inserções hcompetitivas mais bem-sucedidas, apoiadas num desenvolvimento sustentável. Um Estado desenvolvimentista, segundo Evans, caracteriza-se pela autonomia relativa em relação ao interesses do capital internacional, enquanto busca o crescimento de atividades privadas ao lado de políticas de inclusão social, junto à geração de maior competitividade dos segmentos produtivos.
