Resumo: This article offers a critique of the populist reading of some of the central points of Antonio Gramsci's philosophy, specifically those that affect his Marxist theory on civil society and the State. The methodology used consists in the analysis, comparison and interpretation of some works by authors such as Marx, Gramsci, Laclau and Mouffe to show how the undisputed interest in the Italian author inside the political panorama of our days has, nonetheless, fostered certain “postmodern” visions about his thought (in Spain by Errejón and Iglesias, above all) that distort and falsify it until making it unrecognizable.
