Resumo: The article analyzes the news consumption habits and the factors that determine the exposure of Brazilians to the country’s main newscasts. It uses the data of the Brazilian Research Media 2014. Based on mixed effect logistic regressions, it is showed that education, age, interest in politics and greater use of television and the internet, as well as religion and structural factors – the program schedules – are important to explain the consumption of newscasts in Brazil, especially in relation to the two main programs: Jornal Nacional and Jornal da Record. This reinforces the argument in favor of using integrated models for the interpretation of the media consumption habits and suggests that the effects of the structural components are a major cause of TV Globo's dominance in prime time.
