Values and income: An analysis applied to individuals

Resumo: Can values, personal attitudes, and beliefs affect economic and social behavior, and, thus, affect the income profile of individuals? To answer this question, the objective of the article is to evaluate the relationship between the economic dimension (individual income) and the social dimension (values). The ordered logistic regression model is used. The basis of microdata on individual values is the World Values Survey (WVS). The analysis period runs from 1994 to 2014. The results demonstrate that values such as family, trust, gender equality, interest in politics and democracy, and competition are positively related to higher income. On the other hand, values such as religion, obedience, authority, and income equality are inversely related to higher income.

Para responder a esta pregunta, el artículo tiene como objetivo evaluar la relación entre la dimensión económica (renta individual) y la dimensión social (valores). Para lograr este objetivo se utiliza el modelo de regresión logística ordenada. La base compuesta de microdatos sobre valores individuales es la Encuesta Mundial de Valores (WVS). El período de análisis va de 1994 a 2014. Los resultados muestran que valores como la familia, la confianza, la igualdad de género, el interés por la política y la democracia y la competencia se relacionan positivamente con mayores ingresos. Por otro lado, valores como la religión, la obediencia, la autoridad y la igualdad de ingresos están inversamente relacionados con mayores ingresos.Valores, atitudes pessoais e crenças afetam o comportamento econômico e social, podendo afetar o perfil da renda dos indivíduos? Para responder a essa pergunta, o artigo objetiva avaliar a relação entre a dimensão econômica (renda individual) e a dimensão social (valores). O período de análise vai de 1994 a 2014. Os resultados demonstram que valores como família, confiança, igualdade de gênero, interesse por política e democracia, e competição apresentam-se positivamente relacionados à renda mais alta.
