Resumo: This paper explores the theoretical and empirical consequences in the relation among mass society and individuals as dimensions of the political world in Latin America. Discusses the relation of Getúlio Vargas, as representative of modern oligarchy in Brazil, staying in power for more than 15 years and Luis Carlos Prestes, leader of the Communist Party and personality of the Brazilian left until his death in 1990. Two leaders that are remembered as symbol of “Good Politics”, but opposite in the ideological continuum.

Discute la relación de Getúlio Vargas, como representante de la oligarquía moderna en Brasil, permaneciendo en el poder por más de 15 años y Luis Carlos Prestes, líder del Partido Comunista y personalidad de la izquierda brasileña hasta su muerte en 1990. Dos líderes que son recordados como símbolo de la "buena política", pero opuesto en el continuo ideológico.Este artigo explora a noção teórica e empírica da sociedade de massas e o lugar do indivíduo como dimensões recorrentes na América Latina. Examina a trajetória de Getúlio Vargas, representante da oligarquia modernizante do Brasil, que preside o país por mais de 15 anos. e Luis Carlos Prestes, expoente do Partido Comunista e da esquerda brasileira, até a sua morte em 1990.
