Resumo: School meals are a social right and a condition to ensure the permanence of students in the educational system, especially those in a situation of socioeconomic vulnerability. This article aims to analyze the service and financing of the National School Feeding Program (Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar - PNAE) in the State Education Network of Piauí. The research, with a quantitative-qualitative approach, had as sources the legislation, information on the physical-financial execution of the State Department of Education (Seduc) and the National Fund for the Development of Education (FNDE), in addition to questionnaires and interviews with cooks, students, managers, nutritionist and the School Feeding Council. The results showed that there was an increase in the number of students served and in the resources received, especially after 2009, when the PNAE was expanded to all stages of basic education. Despite universal coverage, resources are insufficient to ensure the provision of school meals with the standard established by the Program in question.

Este artículo tiene como objetivo analizar la atención y el financiamiento del Programa Nacional de Alimentación Escolar (PNAE) en la Red Estatal de Educación de Piauí. La investigación, con enfoque cuantitativo-cualitativo, tuvo como fuentes la legislación, información sobre la ejecución físico-financiera de la Secretaría de Educación del Estado (Seduc) y del Fondo Nacional para el Desarrollo de la Educación (FNDE), además de cuestionarios y entrevistas a cocineros, estudiantes, directivos, nutricionista y el Consejo de Alimentación Escolar. Los resultados mostraron que hubo un aumento en el número de estudiantes atendidos y en los recursos recibidos, especialmente a partir de 2009, cuando se amplió el PNAE a todas las etapas de la educación primaria. A pesar de la cobertura universal, los recursos son insuficientes para asegurar la provisión de alimentación escolar con el estándar establecido por el Programa en cuestión.A alimentação escolar é um direito social e condição para assegurar a permanência de estudantes no sistema educacional, especialmente daqueles em situação de vulnerabilidade socioeconômica. Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar o atendimento e o financiamento do Programa Nacional de Alimentação Escolar (PNAE) na Rede Estadual de Educação do Piauí. A pesquisa, de abordagem quantiqualitativa, teve como fontes a legislação, as informações sobre execução físico-financeira da Secretaria Estadual de Educação (Seduc) e do Fundo Nacional de Desenvolvimento da Educação (FNDE), além de questionários e entrevistas com merendeiras, estudantes, gestores, nutricionista e Conselho da Alimentação Escolar. Os resultados denotaram que houve aumento no número de estudantes atendidos e nos recursos recebidos, principalmente após 2009, quando o PNAE foi ampliado para todas as etapas da educação básica.
