Blitzkrieg and Combined Arms: analysis of the importance of airlift

Resumo: This article aims to analyse the role played by airlift in the German driving of the Second World War. The purpose is to demonstrate how this component was a decisive factor for Germany at the time. Thus, the starting point is a theoretical study to verify the concept of Blitzkrieg inserted in the literature. Hence, the relevance of the airborne component, the combined Arms and the air logistics is analysed at the war planning levels. Next, the cases of the Demyansk Pocket and the Battle of Stalingrad are discussed as a way of assessing the possibilities and limits of air transport in the Eastern War.Finally, Blitzkrieg is approached in order to compare it with the operations and the military doctrine of the present time.

O objetivo é demonstrar como esse componente foi um fator decisivo para a Alemanha na época. Assim, o ponto de partida é um estudo teórico para verificar o conceito de Blitzkrieg inserido na literatura. Conseqüentemente, a relevância do componente aerotransportado, das armas combinadas e da logística aérea é analisada nos níveis de planejamento de guerra. A seguir, os casos do Demyansk Pocket e da Batalha de Stalingrado são discutidos como forma de avaliar as possibilidades e limites do transporte aéreo na Guerra do Leste.
