Resumo: This essay provides a critical interpretation of the origins of the current combined economic and political crises in Brazil. It is argued that the twin crises reflect both cyclical and structural elements typical of capitalist economies, yet with specific elements reflecting the underdeveloped status of Brazil, its oligarchical bourgeoisie, and its history.
