Resumo: This technological project aims to study the gas permeability of polymer composites by the investigation of parameters and operational variables of the system used and of the polymers studied. Permeability is defined as the quantification of the transmission of a permeant, gas or vapor, through a resistant material. Thus, the concept of permeability is usually associated with the evaluation of the barrier properties of the plastic materials. The evaluation of the variables of the polymers that interfere in the permeability was made through the characterization and comparison of different composites with different fillers (graphene and carbon nanotubes) in different polymer matrices (polyethylene and polypropylene). Another objective was the optimization of the equipment used, evaluating its efficiency and the reproducibility of the method. Polymeric materials, which are widely used for food packaging, are not absolute barriers against water vapor, gases and organic substances. This fact reinforces the importance of this study.
