Resumo: | The text analyses the creation of an Ecomuseum as a strategy to preserve the local heritage, to promote sustainable development and a social change in the community of Ilha da Pintada (Island of Pintada), Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where the main economic activities are fishery and handicraft. Since 1970, with a progressive reduction of the fishery, the island is the part of the city with the worst human development index, so the handicraft and different sustainable development alternatives, such as communitarian tourism, have become practicable ways to generate income among women. This successful initiative made the community ask the Museology course at the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, in 2012, to transform the experience into a museologic process. Using a participatory management, the ecomuseum typology was chosen as the most adequate once it combines functions and goals of an ecomuseum and the possibility to create strategies to generate income based on activities that appreciate the local heritage and memory. The theoretical basis of the project is the New Museology and the Social Museology. In 2012, a cultural diagnosis was made at the island, leading to the creation of an outdoor museum, a physical museum, a handicraft atelier and a shop to sell the products; and a virtual museum. The program has a participatory management. It was possible to conclude that the first results lead to believe that it’s an effective strategy to integrate university and society in order to overcome social and economical issues. |
