Resumo: This article aims to analyze the narrative created by José Geraldo about the introduction of Jiu-Jitsu in Brazil in his comic magazine A verdade sobre os Gracie. Our main hypothesis is that José Geraldo’s choices to represent the past events of Carlos Gracie’s life were essential to establish an idealized view about the role of Gracie family on the introduction of Jiu-Jitsu in the country. In this process, Carlos is described as a skillfully children, a brave adult, a protector of honor and the main responsible for the nationalization of Jiu-Jitsu.
