History and historians in France, from the great Italian wars to the death of Louis XIV

Resumo: The aim is to present a perspective and an overview of the different practices in the history of the late Middle Ages to the age of French “preponderance”. This original time-span allows to follow the upheaval generated by the spread of printing in the conception, writing, and marketing of history. At a time when the historical profession does not exist, sometimes competing practices implemented by clergymen, men of letters, lawyers and aristocrats through the new genre of memoirs give rise to works bearing the stamp of their training. The focus is on issues of the different types of history, as well as on the relationships between history and memory, the reconstructions of the past and the relation to the time they reflect.

Em um tempo em que a profissão da história não existia, por vezes práticas concorrentes implementadas por homens de Igreja, homens de letras, juristas e aristocratas através do novo gênero de memórias, dão lugar a trabalhos marcados com a estampa de sua formação.
