Resumo: | The conversion point between Portuguese and Brazilian historiographies in the twentieth century from the matter of scientific exile gains a new light with this study of the trajectory of Jaime Cortesão from the perspective of the salazarist political police. The purpose of this article is to make a point on the political repression that this poet and historian had suffered through the investigation of documents produced by PIDE/DGS. Guided by the logic of suspicion and indictment, these documentary sources are revealing of the Estado Novo’s insistent vigilance and control of academic and political activities of intellectuals, especially those of Jaime, who is one of the eminent figures of the Portuguese historical republicanism and was able to resist salazarist obscurantism inside and outside of his country. |
