The field of History professionals has been enlarged throughout the last decades. Museums, memorials, documentation centers, management centers of historic heritage, and agencies of cultural and tourism policies are some of the examples of open spaces for historians. Nevertheless, this new spectrum of possibilities presents a variety of questions and challenges concerning the area of History: what do these institutions expect from the professional who works for them? How has this activity been happening? What obstacles are faced by these professionals? How should their training be held? What abilities should they have? What distinguishes them from other professionals who work in this field? What is the role of the National Association of History – nationally and regionally speaking – in relation to the historians who work in this field? What is the importance of the regulation of that profession for those who work at institutions working with to culturalhistoric heritage? This text intends to find these questions out on a preliminary basis.
