The spirituality of Clare of Assisi – her way of living as a follower of Francis of Assisi: Italy, 13th century

Resumo: Talking of Clare of Assisi is not as simple as it sounds, because she was a woman among so many others who, in her own way, broke with the hegemonic discourse imposed by society and the Church, defending her decisions and views. Clara de Assisi was a young woman of the nobility who lived in the thirteenth century, and it was normal that her family had already planned a future marriage for her, through which she would continue her lineage. However, Clara frustrated the plans of her family members, refusing the proposals in that sense. What drove her to such a decision? Through the analysis of the four letters from Clara de Assisi to Agnes of Braga, we can infer that she preferred to fight to live her spirituality, following the teachings of Francis of Assisi, leading a life in poverty and virginity
