Resumo: Afro-Brazilian history, mandatory subject of the school-curriculum since the enforcement of the law 10.639, January 9th 2003, has promoted a less Eurocentric history and thus, an approximation to a more “connected history”, whereby Brazilian history integrates in the “Black Atlantic”. However, the Americanization of Afrodescendants is obliterated by an Africanization of the new official history, unisonous to a “Black Presentism”. “Black Presentism” in Afro-Brazilian history can be analyzed by means of the triad heritage, memory and commemoration. This test proposes a critical reflection of “Black Presentism” and its relation to a construction of identity/ies of Afro-Brazilians, pointing to theoretical advantages thinking of the process of Americanization which occurs, however, in other hyphenated-groups, unless this means a standardization of their life careers.
