Resumo: This article studies the thought of the Latin American writers Octavio Paz and Mario Vargas Llosa in the light of the more significant political processes in the second half of the 20th century: the Cold War, the struggle of the Third World and, in the continental aspect, the revolutionary cycle, with its successes and failures. This perspective is analyzed in order to prove, first, the globalization of the Latin American intellectuals, and second, the singularities of the ideas of both writers, in comparison with the ideas of the intellectual field in general.

No. 29 (2009): Dossiê História Intelectual Latino-Americana; 261-290Anos 90; v. 16 n. 29 (2009): Dossiê História Intelectual Latino-Americana; 261-2901983-201X0104-236Xreponame:Anos 90 (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)instacron:UFRGS-30porhttps://seer.ufrgs.br/index.php/anos90/article/view/10246/5978Alburquerque, Germáninfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2023-01-12T17:04:11Zoai:seer.ufrgs.br:article/10246Revistahttps://seer.ufrgs.br/anos90PUBhttps://seer.ufrgs.br/anos90/oaianos90@ufrgs.br||1983-201X0104-236Xopendoar:2023-01-12T17:04:11Anos 90 (Online) - Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS)false
